Stress is one of the leading causes of death in the world today.
Little stress of today plus the one of tomorrow
can have devastating Consequences on your health
and indeed your availability for God to use.
No matter how big a balloon is, a single pin is all it takes to deflate it. Even the Bible warns against worry, Matthew 6:25-34 says,
"this is why I tell you not to be worried about the food and drinks you need in order to stay alive. And why worry about cloths? Look how the wild flowers grow they do not work or make cloths for themselves. But I tell you that not even King Solomon with all his wealth had clothes as beautiful as one of these flowers. It is God who cloths the wild grass- Grass that is here today and gone tomorrow, burnt up in the oven, won't he be all the more sure to clothe you? How little faith you have! So do not start worrying where would my food come from? Or my drink? Or my clothes? (these are the things pagans are always concerned about). Your father in heaven knows that you need all these things" (GNT)
Wow! This scripture says it all. At times we worry and stress ourselves too much about little and tribal things,
things that people who know God should not be bothered about.
There are four thinking patterns that make life too stressful and most of us are guilty of at least one of it.
SELF BLAME: self blame is one of the common thinking patterns that exist among humans.
You always have the notion that it is all your fault,
and you end up cursing yourself and calling yourself names
that the devil would end up picking it and would use it against you
example I locked my keys in the car how could I be so stupid.
BLAMING OTHER: in life, humans love to play the blame game. Most of us can never really accept that the fault is ours.
We always feel that someone is the cause of our problems
example how could those car manufacturers be so stupid?
How can the government be that wicked? Blaming others increases and multiplies your stress, avoid it!
URGENCY: most of us are in a hurry to nowhere. We hurry so much that we end up meeting with our death, most of us lack the virtue of patience.
The truth is the thing you are in a hurry to go and meet,
whether you are there or not, the thing will still go on,
it would still happen whether we are there or not
example I can't wait for a panel beater or a locksmith. Should I just break the window? Why the hurry? Stress is killed in the garden of patience
Exaggerating consequences of problems:
example now I will be late to work and my boss is going to be furious and I will lose my job.
That may never even happen, what you fear may never happen. So put the problem and your future in the hands of God.
Do your best and go to sleep. God is in control and the best will work out for you Isaiah 49:16 says you are in the palms of Jehovah. You can't be forgotten. Isaiah 3:10 also says
Tell the godly that all will be well for them. They will enjoy the rich reward they have earned!
GNT
To conclude, Ecclesiastes 5:3 says
The more you worry, the more likely you are to have bad dreams, and the more you talk, the more likely you are to say something foolish.
GNT
